Hardware Requirements
What is SENS?
SENS is a
system provided by the JSE, which disseminates company announcements and price
sensitive information, i.e. mergers, take-overs, rights offers, capital issues,
cautionaries, etc - all of which have an impact on the share price movement in
the market.
The key purpose of SENS is to ensure that this information is
accessible to the investing community interested in trading on the JSE, as soon
as it is vetted by the JSE Listings Division.
The system can be subscribed to
as a continuous Realtime feed or as an end of day summary file of the day's
announcements.
Data availilbilty
This service is
available each trading day between 07h00 and 18h00.
How to
access SENS
SENS can be accessed via a direct link to the JSE with
the required connections or by subscribing to one of the JSE's data
vendors.
Hardware
Requirements
- Realtime Feed
- Remotely accessed via a dedicated DIGINET line between the JSE
and your company. Local connection is via the JSE's token ring network.
- Hardware that can emulate IBM 3270 equipment.
- Equipment at the user site must emulate two logical units, i.e.
a screen and a printer.
- The service operates under IBM SNA (Systems Network
Architecture) using SDLC protocol.
- All fields are transmitted in EBCDIC.
- Data transmitted in 100 byte records.
- End of day / Batch Feed
- A PC or Unix based computer.
- A VT100 terminal emulator, with access into the X.28/X.25
Network.
- A copy of PKUNZIP.EXE version 2 to expand the compressed data
into expanded text.
- Modem.
- Cost involved:
An annual license fee as detailed in the JSE
