About the JSE/Liberty Investment Challenge

The JSE/Liberty Investment Challenge is a game that aims to teach South African learners about investing on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) and the larger role that such investments play in the country's economy.

The Challenge helps those participating, learn about the fundamentals of investment strategies and tests their share trading skills through an ongoing annual simulated "ghost trading" programme. Learners need to form teams which are then given an imaginary sum of R1 000 000 each to invest in JSE-listed shares. Their performance is tracked and measured in a competition against other teams taking part in the Challenge. The top performers win fantastic prizes.

This is truly a game without boundaries, whether cultural or economic. Get registered as soon as possible and let the games begin. Good luck to all teams on behalf of the JSE limited and our sponsors Liberty and Standard Financial Markets.

The investment challenge is made up of two games the school’s and University challenge. The difference is summarized below.

Schools Challenge

The schools challenge is targeted at secondary school learners.

Who can participate in the School’s Challenge?

  • Any South African secondary school may enter one or more teams.
  • Team members must be in grades 8, 9, 10 or 11 to be eligible to participate (it is recommended that learners in grades 8 and 9 participate in the income game).
  • Grade 12 learners may also participate with the permission of the school principal.
  • A team must consist of four members only.
  • Each school must have a supervising teacher or mentor.
