Understanding how Analysts and Investors use financial statements

  • Why should you attend?
  • The disclosure of financial statements is not only a regulatory requirement for listed companies, it is also a primary source of information for capital market participants to assess their value. Financial analysts and investors in particular have their own way of looking at your numbers and this may widely differ from what your corporate accountants had in mind when they produced these documents. One of the most important missions of professional Investor Relations is therefore to bridge this gap and reconcile everyone’s approach on how to assess the financial health of your company, its past performance and future prospects. This course is designed for corporate executives who are keen to better understand how analysts work with their data and satisfy the needs of investors.

  • Course outline:
  • Participants will understand how financial analysts, journalists and investors use corporate financial statements for their investment decisions. Also addressed will be the benefits of combining financial and operating performance metrics in an integrated reporting approach. Participants should already have at least basic financial acumen to attend the course, as this is not an accounting training program. They will nonetheless gain actionable knowledge from various South African and international examples ahead of the next reporting season. All are encouraged to bring their latest financial statements, SENS announcements & investor presentations for advice, experience and idea-sharing.
