What are financial markets?
At a broad level, the financial markets are overseen by the government and regulatory bodies such as the Financial Services Board (FSB). The financial markets include the JSE and other institutions.
The government passes legislation that governs the workings of the JSE and the financial services industry. The FSB ensures compliance with this regulatory framework.
The role of the JSE in financial markets
The JSE sits at the centre of the process as the body that enables buying and selling through transactions. Institutions interface directly with clients. These institutions may be long-term insurers, life companies or stockbrokers.
