Please note that the margin calculator only calculates margin for option positions where there is an existing option on the same future expiry available. It cannot currently be used for margin calculations of option positions where there are no existing options on the underlying future. The JSE is currently investigating new functionality for the calculator, that will enable the user to capture volatilities where these do not currently exist on JSE systems.

  • The Margin Calculator relies on accurate input factors to be able to correspond with the JSE’s calculated Margin requirement; users are therefore cautioned to ensure their input data is correct should they wish to mirror a specific Margin scenario; or
  • The Margin Calculator should only be used as a guide to assist in calculating an estimated Margin requirement;
  • All Margin requirements produced by the Margin Calculator are for indicative purposes only, displayed in South African Rands (ZAR) before Value Added Tax (VAT) and are as of 2018 [and are subject to change without notice];
