9:45 - 10:45 | Careers in the stock exchange ecosystem | Martin Koch - JSE: Senior Trading Product Specialist, Trading Services After graduating with a Bcom Honors degree in Finance from Wits, he started at the JSE as a graduate in 2010 in the Equity Market Trading Services Team. He was involved in Project Jaya, that brought the JSE Equity Market trading engine back to South Africa from London in July 2012. He worked on the implementation of the colocation centre in 2014. Shortly after this, he started on project ITaC, which aims at improving the derivative systems of the JSE in line with the Equity Market.

Erica Bruce - South African Institute of Stockbrokers: President Erica is one of the founding members of Navigare where she is the managing director and stockbroker in control. She has played the role of the president of the South African Institute of Stockbrokers (SAIS) since 2005 and has over 30 years of experience in the South African financial markets including roles at the JSE, HSBC and Cadiz Group. Erica continues to sit on various industry advisory committees and forums.
Mark Weetman - Unum Captial: CEO With over 20 years of trading experience, much of it in the derivatives trenches, Mark rates himself as a self-taught trader. He entered the world of trading and investments after spending four years working for SAB (which possibly explains his love of craft beer) and is a representative of the industry on both the JSE Financial Derivatives and the Retail Advisory Committees.
Anthea Gardner - Cartesian Captial: CEO and Managing Director Anthea spent the majority of her working life in investment banking for internationals such as HSBC, Rand Merchant Bank and Morgan Stanley, before her time as a Senior Investment Officer for the African Development Bank. She holds an MBA from Wits Business School, with a first class thesis in Option Pricing Theory. She can regularly be seen or heard commenting on CNBC Africa, Classic fm, Cliff Central and is a judge for this year's Forbes Africa, All Africa Business Leaders Awards. She is a keen sportsperson, counting the Ironman in Sweden, as one of her greatest accomplishments. Anthea has been a trustee on the ASHA Early Childhood Development charity board since 2015.
Tshepo Maseko - Peregrine Equities: Director and Head of Trading Technology With over 15 years experience in the financial services industry, Tshepo started his career at Sage Life in 1999, before joining Peregrine in September 2005. Tshepo is currently the Head of Trading Technology and Executive Director for Peregrine Securities Group and is responsible for all electronic trading infrastructure at Peregrine and Legae Securities. Tshepo has qualifications that include Advanced Project Management, NDip in IT and has also completed a Programme for Management Development at GIBS. |
