Johannesburg, 09 June 2025 — Today’s listing follows closely on the heels of Shuka Minerals’ listing, marking the second listing of 2025 further cementing the JSE’s reputation as a preferred venue for capital raising.
Greencoat Renewables is an Irish-incorporated specialist renewable energy investment company focused on acquiring and managing operational wind and solar assets across Europe. It currently owns and operates 40 assets across Ireland, Sweden, France, Spain and Germany.
The company boasts a market capitalisation of circa €844 million and has primary listings on the Alternative Investment Market (AIM), a market operated by the London Stock Exchange (LSE) and the Euronext Growth Market, a market operated by the Irish Stock Exchange plc trading as Euronext Dublin (Euronext Dublin). Greencoat Renewables has been listed on the AIM and Euronext Dublin since 25 July 2017.
“We have been highly encouraged by the depth of the capital market in South Africa and the sophistication of the investor community. We look forward to growing our South African shareholder base and providing the local investor community with access to high yielding renewable energy infrastructure assets that underpin a progressive dividend and play an increasing important role in the European energy transition. We would like to thank the JSE, Valeo Capital our SA corporate advisor, and all other stakeholders who have played a key role in making this listing, a first of its kind, a reality,” said Paul O’Donnell, Partner at Greencoat Renewables Plc.
This listing marks the second listing in 2025 under the JSE’s enhanced secondary listing framework, which was expanded in 2024 to include Euronext exchanges (Amsterdam, Brussels, Dublin, Paris, Milan, Lisbon, and Oslo) among its accredited markets. Greencoat Renewables, which maintains a primary listing on the London Stock Exchange and Euronext Dublin, now brings its green energy investment proposition to South African investors.
With 1,113,535,009 ordinary shares listed at a par value of €0.01 each, Greencoat Renewables will be classified under the FTSE Alternative Electricity sector.
“We are delighted to welcome Greencoat Renewables to the JSE,” said Valdene Reddy, Director of Capital Markets at the JSE. “This listing not only emphasises the strength of our secondary listing framework but also reflects the global confidence in South Africa as an attractive investment destination. Greencoat Renewables’ presence on our exchange not only expands the number of listed companies but also offers local investors access to a leading player in the renewable energy space.”
Greencoat Renewables’ listing increases the number of companies listed on the JSE to 277 with a market cap of R21.32 trillion.
