As boards, shareholder expectation is that you will be overseeing and driving sustainable business practices. Questions about Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) issues will be added to the growing number of questions you are being asked by investors. Adding sustainability risks and opportunities to the board's agenda is critical; in the same way, so is considering Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) risks and opportunities.

  • How to decide whether board members should engage directly with shareholders
  • The corporate response to environmental issues – it’s not “just” about climate change
  • Social: internal human-capital management, board diversity, external stakeholders, human rights issues in a business and its supply chains and the social license to operate; and
  • Governance: what processes does the board need to put in place to ensure board accountability on sustainable business practices?
